Seriously, it’s so hard to resist the temptation to click on that garbage.
I hate what “journalism” has become.

You know usually all her stuff comes across as out of touch bollocks but you know what this time she might have a point because this time she had a graph AND figures!
It’s gonna be nice next time I’m crossing a road browsing Oppo and go through a windshield because in the end, I was in the right and they should of been looking where I was going.

I’m almost entirely convinced that ‘Alissa Walker’ isn’t an actual person but a computer bot created by Gawker to churn out as aggressively stupid and inane of articles as possible to troll anyone capable of rational thought. There’s no way a living, thinking human being can write this kind of stuff.
Sidenote: do the Jalopnik authors get a say in what gets shared to their sub-blog, or is this kind of shit just forced on them by the higher-ups?

not going to lie the first part of that article is halfway decent.

According the Patrick George they are shared by the Jalopnik Authors intentionally. Its transportation related so I can’t say they are wrong for doing it, especially since it is designed to...um... encourage discussion.

I think the gist of the article is that cheap gas kills pedestrians because we are high on speed.

Thankfully it’s Gizmodo so the discussion will surely be filled with polite, rational discourse by open-minded individuals who are respectful to those who hold different views than they do...

Yep. 100% of us. That’s why every single car sold today is built for performance and nothing else.
Wait... Shit.

Fair enough that she has stats for the US, but Gawker is vaguely global. Elsewhere in the world, road deaths are still falling. Here is the UK’s statistics, 2013 is the most recent info available on the DfT website.
if cars were the issue, wouldn’t the trend be global? how do we know that the laws on phone use while driving are strong enough? how do we know the average american is smart enough to not use a phone whilst crossing the street?
The spike in 2011 was due to a bad winter.

As said by Mr. Hammerhead, it is done by the authors for “discussion purposes”, even though I’m pretty sure they all know what is going to most likely happen.

I usually go on the fp just to see if there is a new car or something, otherwise I can get all my info from here while engaging in the meaningful discussions that gawker hopes the crossposting will encourage.

I know, don’t join in.
In other words I really like the comment directly underneath.

The first 2 paragraphs are ok and I actually thought she was going to say that pedestrians need to watch for traffic.
Then I read the third paragraph and closed the tab.

Oh the authors definitely know what they’re doing. Don’t blame them, really, they probably get some kind of kickback for each pageview that comes from Jalopnik, it just sucks that the shitposts are the ones that are shared when there are actually quality articles written on other sub-blogs that never get cross-post.
